Tapper
Composer: Alvin Lucier
A violinist taps the body of his instrument with the butt end of his bow, producing short sounds, optimal for creating echoes off the walls, floor and ceiling of the room. Moving from place to place he explores the acoustic characteristics of various parts of the room, including variations in the lengths of the echoes, as well as timbral differences in the sounds themselves. Tapper was commissioned by and composed especially for Conrad Harris.
