Persephassa

Composer: Iannis Xenakis

Persephassa is an archaic name for Persephone. This work dates from 1969, and (in the composer’s words) “…exploits in a new manner the Screen Theory or the logical function of residue classes modulo m”. The spatial placement of the six players allows for carefully composed antiphonal effects, creating a “surround-sound” environment through purely acoustic means.
