Robert McCormick

Percussionist Robert McCormick is currently Professor of Music at the University of South Florida in Tampa.

An active performer, he has performed with the Harry Partch Ensemble, the San Francisco Symphony, and several other orchestras under such leading conductors as Seiji Ozawa, Michael Tilson-Thomas and Robert Shaw. He served as principal percussionist of the Florida Orchestra from 1975 to 1996.

Well represented on recordings, McCormick has credits on the Arista, Columbia/Sony, GM, Continuum, Centaur, Nuema and HoneyRock Labels.

He has authored several articles, solos, and two well known percussion texts: Percussion for Musicians (Warner Bros.) and 32 Duets for Percussion (G. Schirmer). McCormick's recent feature compact disc, The McCormick Duo: Premiers Plus One, with flutist Kim McCormick, has received high critical acclaim.

As a conductor, Robert has recorded over a dozen CDs with the USF Percussion Ensemble, bringing the group to the attention of composers and musicians from around the world. A noted teacher, many of his students have gone on to successful careers in the percussion field.

McCormick currently serves as an artist-clinician for Zildjian Cymbals and Grover Percussion Products.
